Most of today’s mobile phones contain both toxic and valuable minerals and metals. This is why it is so important to dispose of your old handsets properly, as failure to do so will cause a great impact on the environment, especially when you take into account how many mobile phones there are in the world.

Before you do go out and buy a new mobile phone, think about whether or not you really need it. If the answer is yes, then by all means, do recycle the old one you have.

Many consumers could cash in with the launch of the iPhone 4S

Many consumers could cash in with the launch of the iPhone 4S
With the launch of the new iPhone 4S being announced this week, there is likely to be a frenzy of people trying to recycle their old smartphone in time for the upgrade. Sellmyoldmobilephone.co.uk, has  deals on old mobile phones with more than 25 recycling companies,  has said that there will be an increase in smartphones being recycled, not only with the new iPhone being released,, but also because more and more people are starting to understand the benefits to their pocket as well as the environment.
The largest increase in mobile phone being recycled occurred in January, just after Christmas, with many trading in their old phones. Every year around 140 million handsets fill up landfill’s, with a damaging effect on the environment.

Director of sellmyoldmobilephone.co.uk, Graham Miller said: “Consumers go crazy for any Apple launch, even when it is simply a new version of an existing product. When you put this alongside a growing consumer awareness of the benefits of recycling mobile phones, to the vendor’s pocket and the environment, there is the potential for this launch to be a huge boost to this fledgling industry.”

“I believe October, when the new iPhone is stated for launch, could be the busiest month for phone recycling, though it is clear that there are still millions of people not getting on board. The most lucrative handsets to recycle are smart phones, so existing iPhone users have the most to gain from selling on their old handsets.”

But don’t leave it to late to recycle your old iPhone because as soon as the latest phone is out, the iPhones’ predecessor’s value will reduce.
